On 20th May 2022, VFHAT-DUHS under its parent body the Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Foundation collaborated with Polio Eradication Initiative (EPI) to gain more insight regarding the polio disease campaign for high risk population in Karachi Pakistan. District Central has collaborated with VFAHT-DUHS LC to give support in SIAs to remove caregiver hesitancy in areas with high numbers of refusals.
A team of 7 members gathered at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Central at Gulberg for an orientation session at the DC conference hall discussing the EPI team’s efforts and different initiatives made to curb the spread of polio. The myths surrounding polio and other prevalent infectious diseases were discussed in detail.
On 28th May, 31 volunteers were divided into 5 teams and each team was led by a VFAHT DUHS LC member. Each team was sent to a designated area in Gulberg, Karachi where they were briefed by the UC focal person.
The 5 teams were further divided into 20 teams who engaged in refusal coverage.
321 refusals were visited and 107 were vaccinated of which 27 were PMC covered.
